We recently finished, what in our eyes, is one of the most interesting projects to date. Not taking anything away from our line array installs, 200 seater 7.2 surround sound movie theatre installations, or the complex video and audio routing we do with conference systems.
Our customer – a leading supplier of educational products ranging from Secondary School, ad-in courses to National Certificate training - approached us to find a way for them to electronically capture their courses and easily distribute them to qualifying learners across South Africa. We immediately sized the opportunity and started developing a Video Recording Studio at their Bloemfontein campus. To this end, we partnered with some of the best brands in the business while keeping a close eye on the very reasonable budget.
We ended up supplying six custom made, sound absorption panels (3 “Clouds” or, overhead units and 3 wall mounted) a 4 Input HDMI, Matrix Switcher from Black Magic couped with some great 4K cameras from Canon, a great audio mixer and AD converter from Allen&Heath and an excellent set of 4 affordable, variable white lighting from IMix. All other amenities were also either fabricated or supplied and installed by us – from the chairs and large custom desks needed, to the complete screen and computer, storage and editing system driving the software side of the studio.
All and All this seem to have been a good result for us – we have the studio operating in a very flexible way, and ready to cater for the most complex of on-line courses and tutorial videos. With the Canon XA75 at the other end of the presenter, we also allowed for a desk-top camera or Visualizer recording in full-HD, 1080P whatever the instructor is demonstrating on the table in front of him and a massive 82” interactive LCD screen with a build in Windows10 PC mounted on the wall behind said instructor, the control PC adds the final one of four lines into the Black Magic ATM Mini PRO completing all the HDMI Feeds into the Matrix. As for the sound, we incorporated two UHF radio lapel microphones, one large diaphragm studio condenser microphone, and a dynamic vocal microphone as interview style / back-up microphone all linking to the Allen&Heath ZED14.
All being equal – from the start this was a passion project and we got totally involved with the venue and people. We are committed to them for years to come and can’t wait to get contacted by the next church to create their custom video studio and sermon streaming service.
